Tinubu Commands Military to Crush All Threats to Nigeria’s Unity and Security
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a clear and forceful directive to Nigeria’s armed forces: crush every form of threat that endangers the country’s peace and unity. Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima during the grand finale of the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration in Kaduna, the president reaffirmed his full support for the military to act boldly and without hesitation.
In a powerful message, Tinubu emphasized that the time for caution was over. He described terrorism, banditry, separatist movements, and insurgency as severe dangers that must no longer be underestimated. According to him, these threats are not just attacks on the government but on the very soul of the nation, as they destroy lives indiscriminately regardless of faith, tribe, or region.
“You have my total backing. The Nigerian people stand with you. This is not just your duty — this is a national calling,” he declared, encouraging officers and soldiers to rise with renewed determination.
The president also pledged unwavering support in terms of funding, weaponry, intelligence, and manpower development. He stressed that building a secure and sovereign Nigeria depends on a well-equipped and highly motivated military. “We are aware of your challenges, but our response must be united, firm, and without delay,” Tinubu added.
In a moment of solemn reflection, the Commander-in-Chief paid tribute to fallen soldiers and those wounded in service. He acknowledged their sacrifices and vowed that their names and efforts would never be forgotten. “The blood of our heroes waters the soil of our nation’s future,” he said, adding that families left behind would continue to receive federal attention and honor.
Vice President Shettima, who represented the president at the event, delivered the speech at Murtala Square in Kaduna to a crowd that included military chiefs, traditional leaders, top government officials, foreign diplomats, and local residents. The event was filled with parades, tactical displays, and exhibitions of new military technology.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing that the transformation of the Nigerian Army depends heavily on the well-being and professionalism of its personnel. He said the focus going forward is on the “soldier-first” concept, which prioritizes training, morale, and discipline above all else.
He reminded the audience that while weapons may change, the spirit of the Nigerian soldier remains the true force behind national defense. Coordination between the Army, Navy, Air Force, and other security bodies, he noted, is central to defeating the rising threats in every region of Nigeria.
The Nigerian Army Day Celebration is more than just a ceremonial occasion. It serves as a reminder of the heavy responsibilities shouldered by those who wear the uniform and a call to action for the entire nation to stand behind them.
This year’s message was unmistakable: Nigeria’s leadership is no longer interested in containment or negotiations with violent actors. It is now about victory — full, final, and without compromise.
